Tamara Herrera

Tamara Herrera is the president and chief economist of Síntesis Financiera C.A., a Caracas-based consulting firm focused on Venezuela country risk, politics and policy, and the financial sector. She is also a member of GlobalSource Partners, a global network of independent emerging market economists.

She joined the firm in 1976 and has played a vital role in developing the company’s financial sector analysis and macroeconomic forecasting capabilities.

She pioneered country-risk analysis in Venezuela and spearheaded Sintesis Financiera’s integral approach to analyzing politics and policy and foreseeing how government actions affect Venezuela’s markets and business operations, consistently sought by multinationals operating in Venezuela and domestic companies.

In 1991-1995, she established the Center for Information and Analysis of Grupo Unión, then the fourth-largest financial group in Venezuela.

She is a member of the Venezuelan-American Chamber of Commerce (Venamcham) board of directors and Executive Committee and actively participates in the organization’s working groups.

She has contributed to the work of research teams at the top Venezuelan business organizations: Venezuelan Banking Association, Venezuelan Federation of Chambers of Industry and Commerce (Fedecámaras), Venezuelan Confederation of Trade and Services Chambers (Consecomercio), and Venezuelan Confederation of Industry (Conindustria).

One of Tamara’s passions is disseminating economic and financial knowledge to non-specialized audiences, especially ordinary citizens. She aims to facilitate an understanding of economic events and public policies in Venezuela and the world. This passion led her to serve as anchor of the television show Economy Day by Day in 1993-1994 and to develop a permanent presence as a guest at highly prestigious radio and television talk shows on economics and finance. She is also a coveted guest speaker at meetings with Venezuelan businesses and international investors.

Tamara is one of Venezuela’s most authoritative economics, politics, and policy sources. Ms. Herrera earned her Economics degree from Universidad Central de Venezuela in 1983.
